DIY Children's outfit made into a shirt

As a mom, I love shopping especially for my kids!!! Shopping constantly for clothes is fun but it gets waaaaay too expensive!  I normally purchase clothes one size larger than usual because kids grow so fast.

I bought these outfits not too long ago and then a couple of weeks after purchased, I tried to snap the outfits, but couldn't because she grew longer than the outfit, so what do I do?

Cut and sew!

DIY Large multiple tape dispenser

So, I bought tons of washi tapes from the Dollar store and not sure how I could keep them secure and can use it without the mess.

I figured, why not use the container to keep all my tapes secure?
So, here's how you can make your own large tape dispenser and you can do the same thing with the Reynold's Wrap container too!

What you would need:
  • 1 empty Parchment container
  • 1 Cardboard roll (I used an old empty wrapper) or you can just roll several pages of newspaper to fit the container
  • Acrylic paint-I used small amount of white paint so it will be easier to see the decorations
  • Washi tapes
  • Optional: Adhesive Velcro strips
1. Paint the inside (lid and all)

2. Paint the front part and let it dry

3. Once it is dry, turn it over and paint the back and the lid

4. Let it sit and dry. Once it is completely dry, start decorating with those tapes!

Optional: Cut up three small strips of adhesive Velcro (approx. 0.5 inches) each and place them on the container to secure the tapes in place.

HOPE YOU ENJOY MAKING IT!!
Love these tapes!!!

Please post pictures, share your creativity!!!

How to make a star

Several years ago, I folded paper into little stars and placed them into the jar, which I just found after cleaning out my basement.  I forgot that I wrote little messages in those little stars during one of the toughest times in my life and most stressful time in my life as a stress reliever....origami was also a good way for me to relax when I was in Nursing school.

Here's how you can make a star with scrap papers:

1. Strip of paper, size measure of 1/2 in x 8 in. The wider the paper, the bigger the star.

2. Fold it into a knot towards one end (either left or right side).

3. Press down, fold the paper.

4. Turn it over.

5. Tuck the shorter end underneath as pictured.

6. Pull and fold the shorter end.

7. Turn over to the other side.

8. Tuck the longer end underneath as pictured.

9. Pull and tug the longer piece. Fold and press.

10: Tuck the shorter end underneath again to keep it secure.

11. Turn it over, keep folding it over each other buy following the shape of the pentagon. The more times you cover each side, the firmer the star will become.

12. Keep folding it around.

13. Once you have just a small piece left, you just have to tuck it underneath the fold to keep it secure.

14. Now, just pinch each corner with your fingernails.

WA LA!

Place them in fancy vase or hang them from the ceiling to decorate your home.

I hope you enjoyed making it!!!
Please feel free to post comments, decorations and also pictures of what you created!
Thank you!!!

Interchangeable hat decoration

So, there's a few things that you will notice about me, I am frugal but creative.

I had some old pins, head clips and headband decorations left, I decided to make something for my daughter and can be used multiple times, I created an interchangeable hat decoration.

So, this is what you need:

1.  Adhesive Velcro, decorations, and a hat

2.  Cut the Velcro into small pieces and placed them on the back of the decorations. I used the negative part onto the decorations rather than on the hat because I don't need to wash these in the washer, if I put it on the hat, higher chances of damaging other clothes in the washer and dryer.

3. Choose a location on the hat. If you prefer, you can sew this on, but I did not need to even after a couple of washes, the Velcro remained secured.

4.  Here are the end products

Optional: On my daughter's dresser door, I decided to put a long strip of Velcro onto the door to keep it secure and away from my daughter.

HOPE YOU FIND IT EASY AND FUN TO CREATE FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE!!
Please post and share what you created here!

Chocolate decor idea

Chocolate??

Why not!

Who doesn't love chocolate! I know I do!  I have created something I wanted to share with everyone.  I started making this several years ago for  two reasons 1.) I love chocolate 2.) It was the holiday and wanted to bring in something different to share with my co-workers (Christmas at the time).

If you are allergic to glue or adhesive, please be cautious when using hot glue gun or removing the candy to eat.  So far, I have not experienced the hot glue melting the candy wrappers.

I made these for co-workers during many holidays and everyone seems to enjoy the treat and the look of it. My husband even took them to his work and shared with his colleagues. It is very easy and it takes me less than 30 minutes to make, the hardest part was trying to figure which candy I wanted and what pattern I wanted on the wreath.

Supplies:
Ribbons (1-2" width is recommended)
Any size Styrofoam beveled wreaths
Bags of candy (I love the bag with various chocolate)
Hot glue gun and sticks
Embellishments  (Examples; ornaments, ribbons, etc.)

NOTE: For a small wreath you will need up to 50-75 candy to cover the wreath (depending on the size of the candy and how many other decorations you want to add on there).  The large 16" wreath you will need about 80-100 candy, again depending on the size of the candy and how many other decorations you want to add in there.

When making this, you can get as creative as you want, it can be as small or as large as you want it to be. You get to choose the candy you want on this wonderful treat, here are a few examples;

I called this one "Chocolate Lover Platter."
This is a 7.5"x 1.25" Styrofoam disk covered in chocolate.

This is as small as my hand. It is 12" Floracraft Beveled Styrofoam wreath.

This is 16" Floracraft Beveled Styrofoam wreath.

I have made a tutorial video and posted on Youtube a few years ago.

Please check back later for more ideas!!

Lao names

In 2010, my husband and I decided to have children, we decided that it would be ideal for our children to have a Laotian middle name since they are half Laotian and half Caucasian.  The Lao middle name was something I really wanted because that is who I am and who they will become.

When I became pregnant, we searched all over the internet to find the appropriate name for our boy and girl, but finding the Lao middle names were quite difficult besides the adored names that grandparents give to their grandchildren.  For example; my mother calls my son "hua bay" which means "flat head." Granted he does have a flat head (we did follow the rules of "Back is Best").  There are also names such as "hum" which means "testicles" in English, or "hum noy" which means "small testicles." Some times I call my son "Ai (pronounce "I") which means "brother" just because it was something natural for me and he responds to it even though that is not his middle name.

After doing a lot of research online, looking through dictionaries, and talking to elders in the family, I have comprised a list of names and its meanings.

I hope it helps you decide your baby's Lao name!!

Activity binder for a three year old

My son is 3 y.o now, he is in process of learning how to write, spell, read and do math. At this age he has mastered his alphabets, numbers up to 30 and he can count by 10's up to 100. We do a lot of singing and reading at bedtime.

It is important for you to stick to the bedtime routine as much as possible with them at this age.

At this age, your child's gross motor skills and fine motor skills have developed/increased rapidly through you. They are trying to figure out the world and put the world together as much as possible in their brain and make sense of it all.  Their language skills have increased dramatically, if not, that is ok too, you'll be surprise of how much they are consuming.  They love to help with chores, ask questions, increase their self-esteem, and this is the best time to teach them and allow them to express themselves and learn from you.

When my son was 2 years old, I started putting together a binder of all the things I wanted him to improve and make a game out of it into a book.  He love the idea of having his own book and seeing his name on the cover, his facial expression was priceless.

A lot of these items were bought from the Dollar Store except for the Velcro, I bought that at Joann Fabrics. I know that some stores such as Hobby Lobby has a binder with cardboard pages in there, I did not know that until after I laminated and created the book. I did not make it out of fabric like some of the quiet books I've seen online.

This one allows him to correctly spell his name. The Velcro help with his hand and eye coordination.

My son actually thought these were roads for his cars, little did he know it is for him to practice writing his alphabets or words.

This was also another way to practice writing his alphabets, occasionally we would do this in the car on our way home from daycare or grocery store.

These flash cards were also purchased at the Dollar Store, I noticed that he was having a hard time matching letters with objects, so I decided to put Velcro on the back and he can match them up to each other.

Eventually, he would need to learn how to tell time, so he has his own clock and own hands to spin around.

Improve counting and hand/eye coordination.

It's never too early to teach them math.

Ahhh yes, potty training... my son is the type that learns through observation and repetitive (like most 2-3 year olds). Before we started actually potty training, we went through each steps and he was able to verbalize the steps to me.

This was also found at the Dollar Store, it is called "Build your own town", it has stickers, what 2 year old doesn't like stickers!

My son likes to participate and we were working on counting.

These are awesome! He loves playing with them in the car.

Learning basic shapes.

Opportunity to learn colors and objects.

Another counting idea, the color tabs pulls down. I used scotch tapes to add the tabs so you can quiz them.

My son love this one, he can name the animals, match and spell them out to me.

HOPE YOUR CHILD ENJOYS HAVING THEIR OWN BOOK!!
